Five Things You Can Do While on Vacation in Big Bear, CA

It is summer time, and we all like to get away from the daily grind. The kids are out of school, and you have saved up some vacation, but where to go? One of the destinations that is always a crowd pleaser is Big Bear, California. With its high altitude it is much cooler than some of the low lying areas of the state, and it is a great place to take the family and just get away from it all for a while. The Big Bear area has plenty to do.

Water Sports. Water sports are one of the favorite past times for folks visiting the lake. Jet skiing, boating, wake boarding...the list goes on and on. Folks love to come to the lake to enjoy the cool water and cool temperatures and have a great time. If water sports are your thing, take a look at the Big Bear Marina. They offer a full compliment of water sports to include jet skiing and wake boarding.

Shopping. The small towns around the Big Bear area may not be a shopping mecca, but there are many small stores that provide unique items that are perfect to take back with you as a memento of your trip to this California getaway. Just as with any other touristy area, there is a wide array of mom & pop shops that sell lake memorabilia, antique shops, restaurants and more. There is something for everyone. If you are really looking for some niched specialty shops, you may want to consider visiting The Christmas Mart, or the Yarn Designers Boutique while you are in town. You don't find shops like that too often.

Get Outdoors. There is plenty to do and see for the avid nature lover. Hiking is huge in this neck of the woods (no pun intended). The mountains and lake provide the perfect backdrop to get out in the wilderness and explore the grandeur of the California forests. Additionally, the close proximity of the lake allows for visitors to combine a little hiking with their boating and mix in some camping to top it off. Big Bear is truly a well rounded outdoor paradise.

Go Fish. In addition to all of the water sports and outdoor activities, Big Bear is a great place to get some fishing in. The lake is stocked with multiple types of fish, which makes it perfect for novice and expert fishermen alike. The breathtaking views, clean air and blissful solitude of many of the remote areas around the lake make it perfect for just getting away and enjoying the peace and quiet...all under the guise of "fishing". If you are looking for serenity...you can find it here.

Horseback Riding. If none of the above activities is appealing to you, maybe you would prefer to spend your time seeing the lake on horseback. Big Bear has plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the area from an equine's point of view. Let the horse be your guide and enjoy the lake while the horse does all of the work. If horses are your thing, you will want to be sure to check out the Baldwin Lake Stables and Petting Zoo. They have a little something for the entire family.

Regardless of how you choose to pass the time you spend at Big Bear, you can't go wrong. Even if you simply chose to rent a cabin and sit in it for a week...it would be time well spent.
